Professional Goals
After graduating from Georgetown University with a Master's Degree in Nursing Education, it was my priveledge to become a member of the nursing faculty member at Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts. In this role I have blended my passion for teaching with my years of clinical experience to empower nursing students in their transformation to nursing professionals. As an active member of an academic community I have and continue to develop my skills and contributions to the three essential responsibilities of academic faculty; teaching, research, and service.
In the role of teaching, I have drawn upon my previous experiences at the beside and in the classroom to create learning experiences and materials that support students' learning and development. In addition, I continue to develop my own education style, incorporating active and clinical learning strategies into my teaching.
As I continue to develop as a nursing faculty member I intend to seek out opportunities to experience other faculty members' educational skills and practices. I continue to draw upon the examples and experiences of other faculty members to improve my own educational practices. In my role as associate faculty member, I return the service of mentorship to new nursing faculty members and nursing students pursuing their Master's Degree in Nursing Education. As an active faculty member, I continue to participate in faculty, curriculum, and professional development activities to ensure the stability and the successful future of nursing education.
As an educator, I understand the importance of doctoral preparation for faculty members. Doctoral preparation will strengthen my ability to conduct research and create new knowledge related to nursing education, contributing to my responsibility of research. It is my intention to pursue a doctoral degree as I continue to develop as an active faculty member.
